Velvet Sand

This is actually my 4th purchase of Velvet Sand. I initially bought the 10ml to try it out. I was intrigued but unsure if it really could match my beloved but oh so expensive Santal 33. To my great delight it was a perfect match! I have since made my way through a few 50ml bottles but I’ve recently purchased another 10ml bottle … My daughter is about to head overseas for a year of work and travel and we will miss each other a lot. I had the bright idea to surprise her on departure with a tiny bottle of my fragrance to slip into her backpack. I thought she can spray a little bit when she’s feeling homesick and think of her mum ;) Thanks Whiff - I am often asked about my perfume and I’m always quick to recommend you of course! Smelt this fragrance on a colleague at work. She directed me to your website I purchased the velvet sand fragrance and wore it at an event. Was commented quite a few times for the beautiful smell and aroma this scent had and now one of those ladies that commented has purchased about 5 bottles and has taken them oversees with her This was the weekend just gone. It’s sooooo good ! I was really worried it wouldn’t smell right as I ordered it on line without smelling first. It was so perfect it instantly reminded me of my friend who wears Santal 33. I’m obsessed . I had read on reddit that it doesn’t last - so not true ! It stays on , no need to respray more than once a day ( often it stays on clothes for multiple days) I do spray it more than once a day just because I love it so much . So so happy .

I love it! There is an immediate fresh scent due to the iris and violet. The fresh woody notes follow with a hint of cardamom. The amber comes though with a slight hint of musk. The leather notes are there but more in 'an introvert stuck in the corner of a party' way - they're not the main event. The violet still comes though as it dries. The spiciness of the amber mixed with the woody scents gives it a fresh pine needle feel with slight fresh floral notes underneath. Kind of like you're lost in the woods but all the trees are dotted with violet and iris flowers. There's a little warmth underneath due to the amber. This is a unisex scent imo. This could be worn during winter and autumn and any rainy days year-round. It could work in spring due to the fresh scent. It's not light but also not heavy. Probably 2 sprays would be all you need. I'd like to try layering it with Marc Jacobs Daisy (Morning Petal by Whif) so the freshness really comes out. I think that could bump it up to a every day year-round scent.

I really wanted to love this one but the leather scent wasn’t for me, unfortunately. Sometimes I don’t mind something a bit more unisex (love Seraphic Dream), but I think Velvet Sand is just too masc for me. Just my personal preference. Was OK layered with something more feminine but I’ve got plenty of Whif so decided I’d pass this one on.

I was curious as I've heard so much about Le Labo Santal and just wanted to find out what the it girls smell like lol. I definitely recognise this smell. Despite its ubiquitousness it is rather unusual and not something I'd ordinarily gravitate towards. However, it really grows on you and while it's not my favourite I've come to enjoy it and feel very chic and hip wearing it.
